Teaching a Dog the Stop Command
"Stop!" is one of the most valuable commands you can teach your dog. Once taught, you will be able to use the Stop Command for many situations during your dog's entire life. Once learned by a dog, this command is invaluable as it communicates the action you would like him to take. The Stop Command, like other commands, is a direct way to tell your dog exactly what you want him to do.
This guide is written by a professional dog trainer, Joe White, who will instruct you on how to teach your dog the Stop Command to have a limitless tool for interacting with your pet.
Here is an excerpt from the section, "Stop Converting Anxiety into Misbehavior":
A reprimand, especially an over involved one, comes with side-effects. Reprimands can bring forward other behavioral problems like separation anxiety and misbehavior for attention. Reprimands lessen a dog's self esteem and weaken the bond between the dog and the owner.
A command is a direction; a reprimand is a rejection. What makes more sense: providing the dog with clear information by directing him or a confusing display of anger?
Topics covered in this eDocument include:
- Reasons that the Stop Command can be so effective
- Ways of using the Stop Command and how it will aid the dog-owner bond
- Types of misbehaviors created by separation anxiety
- Teaching your dog the Stop Command and having him obey it
- Guidelines for issuing the Stop Command and how to reinforce it
- How to address recurring problems after teaching the Stop Command
Whether it is to help you to deal with misbehaviors in your dog or to provide an extra tool for teaching your dog obedience, the Stop Command can be your best friend when dealing with your man's best friend.

This is the most amazing command and I don't understand why other trainers don't teach it to dogs and dog owners. It really is a quick fix for every behavioral problem a dog has..
